McVicker Counseling Services started when Bill McVicker and his wife decided to adopt a child. They already birthed seven children but wanted to help a child have a family they could call their own. Little did they know they would be adopting eleven children from the foster system while being fost/adopt parents for almost thirty years.
Bill was an electrician for many years before deciding to go back to school in his early 50's to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. His experience parenting many foster children motived him to get his license. He finished school with a Masters Degree along with his 3,000 hours counseling through the non-profit, Touched by a Child Foundation, that he founded.
Bill knows first hand what it is like to parent and live with children with:
-
Attachment Issues
-
ADD/ADHD
-
Bi-Polar
-
Mania
-
Schizophrenia
-
Eating Disorders
Bill's educational background along with his everyday parenting gives parents, children, adults, and professionals an inside look at what it truly is like to not only parent their children, but how to be able to relate and understand them from the inside out.
He also has the skills and insights working with adults who struggle with the same diagnosis and clients who struggle with decision making and feeling defeated leading to depression. You might be feeling you don’t know the way back to healing or how to balance your life. Bill wants to help you not only survive your day but learn to thrive each day knowing you have a therapist that understands what you are going through. He will give you skills and a mind set to be content with who you are and strive towards living a happy and fulfilling life.
WHat is the Whole-Brain Perspective?
The whole-brain perspective focuses on a holistic approach understanding the basic functions and creation of your brain. When you understand the brain and how it works you can begin to recognize your emotional state and decided on how you want to think and feel.
